Description

Oxford Diecast Diamond T Ballast Edward BeckThe Diamond T shown here as a ballast truck for a well known but long gone family owned company Edward Beck Ltd of Stockport. Dating back to the early 1940s, the Diamond T was an American vehicle manufactured by the Diamond T Company in Chicago. Its heavy duty capabilities made it particularly ideal for military use although it was a natural choice in civilian life where it was most suitable for operating on rugged terrain and carrying heavy loads.

The Diamond T shown here as a ballast truck for a well-known but long gone family owned company Edward Beck Ltd of Stockport.

Edward Beck was born in 1912 and caught the haulage bug whilst working as a driver for a local heavy haulage company delivering sand. Rising up through the ranks, he became a manager just before World War II. After the War, Edward saw a gap in the transport of heavy plant machinery and set up on his own, with an office and a yard in Manchester naming his new company Contractors (Manchester) Ltd.  He adopted the pale yellow livery in 1948 and it became the trademark colour scheme for Edward Beck Ltd from then on. The company went from strength to strength, moving to Reddish near Stockport in 1948 where it was very well placed for expansion and demand for its services, particularly the transport of abnormal loads for the construction industry. It also transported plant from the docks to destinations across the UK. In 1955 he set up another company Contractors (Transport) Ltd., the period of our Oxford model. In 1972, the highly successful Edward Beck & son Ltd decided to wind up the business and the whole family moved to the Isle of Man, where Edward enjoyed his retirement until his death in 1987 aged 74.  His wife died in 2009 aged 96 while his son Teddy and family continue to live there.

Our Oxford model is a nostalgic tribute to Edward Beck Ltd, decorated in the company’s familiar primrose yellow bodywork. Contrasting trim includes black mudguards, chassis, white bumpers and black interior. The Diamond T is registered PML 804. A roof board over the cab carries the name in red of Edward Beck & Son Ltd. Additional lettering along the sides of the trailer and on the cab doors highlights all the contact details in Greg St, Reddish and their London Terminus. A spare wheel sits in the front of the trailer decorated with the same red centre as those on the vehicle.

While Edward Beck & Son Ltd has disappeared into the annals of heavy haulage history, the name lives on in this authentic Oxford replica.

K270 keyboard info that might help you
Color: Black, Size: 1 Pack, Style: Keyboard
This review is a bit long, but has info that might help you. I posted it twice, once for the K270 keyboard and once for the M510 mouse. I have owned a K270 keyboard and M185 compact mouse for years. I bought them as the keyboard/mouse combo that Logitech sells. I have been happy with them. They are still working, but I decided that I would like to have a full size mouse. I settled on the M510 for the new mouse. The M510 mouse works with the unifying receiver. I did a fair amount of research before buying. I thought I could use the original K270 keyboard with the new mouse. I found that the older M185 mouse is not unifying. I thought that was odd because when you look at the seperate K270 Keyboard, it says that it is a unifying keyboard. Why would the combo set have a unifying keyboard but a non-unifying mouse? From what I have read online, when you buy the K270/M185 combo, it is NOT a unifying set. If you buy the K270 keyboard seperately, it IS a unifying keyboard. Since I wanted to get the M510 mouse, I had to buy a new seperate K270 keyboard since the one in the combo set is not unifying. I found this out ahead of time, so it was not an issue. I actually bought 2 each of the K270 & M510, for each of our 2 computers. Did not have any trouble getting them up and running. As a side benefit, the keyboard and mouse each come with a unifying receiver so I have a couple of spare receivers now. Registering them was an adventure. There are two methods to register, a serial number search or entering the info manually. The serial number search did not find any of them, so I did it manually. I did the keyboards first. After you enter the info for the unit you are registering, the registration software asks for the serial number. When you give it the serial number, I does a serial number search and verifies that the serial number matches that unit. This serial number search acutally worked (sort of). It found one of the keyboards correctly, but kept changing the other to a K295 instead of a K270. More on that in a bit. Next I registered the mice. When I got to the point where you select the correct model, the M510 was not in the list. I tried a few different things and finally found a trick that worked. When it asked for the model, I used M525 instead of M510. At the next step where it did the serial number search, it found the serial number was associated with the M510 and corrected the model entry from M525 to M510. Success with the mice. Back to the keyboard. I could not figure out a way around the registration error, so I contacted Logitech support and got a reply back from a support rep named Sharan. After a couple of email exchanges, Sharan was able to get the other keyboard registered correctly - Thank you again for your help, Sharan. I had noticed when I first started all of this that each unit has two serial numbers, one on the box and one on the unit. The two serial numbers did not match. Sharan told me that the number on the box is strictly for inventory use and the number on the unit is the one to use when registering. Anyway, both sets are now working and correctly registered. Happy with the purchase.

Lovely
Color: Rose, Size: 1 Pack, Style: Combo
Love the clacking sound, it’s satisfying, the keys aren’t sticky, it’s a nice shade of pink, comfortable to use. Keys pop off easy enough for easy cleaning and are super stable when popped back on. The mouse is great two, it’s a two-in-one set up with the USB plug in so it controls both which is nice.

An extra separate dongle for the keyboard and mouse would make this perfect.
Color: Off White, Size: 1 Pack, Style: Combo
I picked up the Logitech MK270 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo on a recommendation from our IT guy, and overall it’s been a solid buy for the price. The keyboard is the highlight. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and it’s been great. It’s quiet, responsive, and just works every time without any issues. Setup was simple and I haven’t had a single connectivity problem. I do wish the rear feet lifted it a bit higher. Even fully extended, it sits more flat than what I was used to. That said, I’m adjusting to it and it hasn’t been a dealbreaker. The mouse is where it falls short. It gets the job done, but it definitely feels a bit cheap compared to the keyboard. Lightweight in a way that doesn’t feel premium, and just not the same level of quality overall. One thing I really wish they included is a second dongle. I’d love to keep the keyboard connected to my main PC and use the mouse with my laptop, but with only one receiver that’s not an option out of the box. All in, this is a reliable combo from Logitech. The keyboard alone makes it worth it, especially at this price point. Just go in knowing the mouse is pretty basic and you’re limited to a single receiver setup.

Perfect solution to a common problem
Size: 6-Foot Cable, Style: Rotating Plug - Single Pack
Power strips that have low profile plugs are fairly easy to find these days, but it's a lot more difficult to find one where the cord leaves the plug in the direction you need it to. This solves that problem. you can turn the prongs on the plug and any direction you need them to go. And it doesn't hurt that the design is attractive and appears to be fairly sturdy. I've been using mine for over a month at this point and I'm very happy with it.
